Pentax K-7 or K-5 - How Does The Newest Pentax DSLR Stack Up

pentaxk5 | 27 January, 2012 08:58

Pentax is moving backwards when the rest of the digital SLR kingdom goes forward. The newest version associated with Pentax mid-level DSLR is the pentax k-5; the older version is a Pentax K-7. It doesn't make sense. Why isn't it a greater number than the former one? Go figure.

More important in comparison to the name are the updates. Is this new camera worth your attention? And, by the way, which one has the higher user rating? More on that later. Pentax is saying that this pentax k-5 is a "refinement" of the K-7. We generally think in terms of upgrade. Another Pentax anomaly. No matter what.

The upgrades ... acceptable, refinements, are in a few expected areas.

  1. First, the CMOS sensor comes with increased from 14. 6-megapixels to help 16. 3-megapixels.

  2. There's an increase in this continuous shooting rate with 5. 2 frames per second to 7 frames per second.

  3. ISO has ended up refined to go completely up to 51, 200 rather then a paltry 6400.

  4. There's also been an increase from the 12-bit RAW bit depth to 14-bit.

  5. Video recording in addition has been improved to comprehensive 1920x1080p at 25 fps rather then 1536x1024p (they were the only real ones with that size video which was rather unusual).

Many cameras are including in-camera HDR today. But the Pentax most people have somehow added automatic image alignment to help you shoot while hand-holding ones camera.

There are other benefits which might be common to both cameras which can be well worth mentioning.

  • Having a camera that is weather resistant is important when you are out in the substances. The Pentax models both sport a magnesium alloy body for a stainless steel frame, and maybe they are weather-sealed for that needed protection. So go ahead and jump in the snow or surf using either.

  • Another great attribute of Pentax DSLRs is the image stabilization that is built into the body rather than being dependent upon your lens IS.

  • Additionally, every lens made to get a Pentax SLR is compatible with the newest models. This can be a huge advantage for those people who are old Pentax owners.

The Pentax folks haven't entered into the advertising wars to advertise their cameras. Instead they rely on quality and user pleasure for product promotion.
